A late rally couldn’t help Madeley White Stars from suffering an opening day defeat against a strong Stone Dominoes team. Despite this set back it was a performance full of promise, with some excellent individual performances.

It was Stone who started brightly, having the majority of the first half play. However, Madeley always looked strong on the break with some quick and dangerous counter attacking from Logan, Harrison and Savas. Joe also posed a threat and could have scored if not for a little more composure in front of goal.

The pressure applied by Stone did eventually pay off with an unfortunate own goal. It was an ill-fated moment for goalie Sam. Who had produced a world class save not 5 minutes beforehand.

A quick start by Stone in the 2nd half took the game away from Madeley, but their spirit didn’t waver. The last 20 minutes saw a fabulous strike from Jamie to make it 3-1 and sustained pressure could have produced more goals.

A disappointing result but lots of promise for the season to come.
